Soft rollers hit the Cowloes
Soft rollers hit the Cowloes
A low rocky outcrop at low tide, and a dangerous reef to shipping at high tide.
This was the fate of the "Royal Oak" which grounded here on 17th April 1788, which despite being within walking distance of the shore at low tide had to be broken up by salvagers 'least she be lost to the sea'.
