After making the strenuous climb up the “Radical Steps” (SD6178 : Kirkby Lonsdale, "The Radical Steps"), one is rewarded by a wonderful vista known as “Ruskin’s View”. The scene, with its pleasing balance between the River Lune, the farmland, the woodland and the distant hills of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, was praised by John Ruskin Link

as "One of the loveliest views in England" and was painted by Romantic watercolourist JMW Turner Link
