The Lincoln Imp
The Lincoln Imp
One of two Ruston tractors in preservation named "The Lincoln Imp", this one is the Ruston Proctor Works No 52607, which carries registration number HP 2201.
This machine was ordered by the War Department, but not delivered until the end of 1918. It was sold into private ownership by the WD, in early 1919, and worked around the midlands before coming into preservation.

The protective skirt around the motion carries a brass image of the eponymous imp, and a brass legend saying "the Lincoln Imp" which seems to have featured on most of the factory's output, but which has given this machine its name.

The smokebox door says just "Ruston Lincoln England", but the DVLC record for HP 2201 says the make is "Ruston Proctor". The Ruston company traded as "Ruston Proctor and company" until September 1918, when it merged with Richard Hornsby and Son to be come the famous "Ruston Hornsby". This must have been one of the last machines made under the old name.
