In the original 1974 edition of the Staffordshire volume of Pevsner's "The Buildings of England" (Penguin Books; later Yale University Press), Nikolaus Pevsner described this building as "Really horrid High Victorian Gothic". It dates from 1861 and is no longer a school but is in residential use.
