Boundary Stone below St David's Cairn
Boundary Stone below St David's Cairn
Old maps show several boundary stones marking the boundary between Alnham and Biddlestone parishes. The squared stones are approximately 0.17 x 0.19m thick and 0.9m long, 0.45m of which is intended to be exposed. Each stone has a letter 'N' inscribed on one face and a mark which could be a letter 'S' on the opposite face, the 'N' turned towards Alnham, the 'S' towards Biddlestone. The 1st edition OS map surveyed in 1863 shows the then undefined boundary south of St David's Cairn delineated by four boundary stones, certain large rocks in the vicinity of Flint Crag, and two stone cairns. A further 11 boundary stones are indicated between St David's Cairn west to the summit of Wether Cairn although the modern map only shows six.
