Construction Work near the Irwell
More construction work taking place in Manchester City Centre.

The twin-arched railway bridge in the foreground was built by Manchester South Junction & Altrincham Railway Company in 1849 and links with the viaduct which takes trains to Deansgate and Piccadilly stations. It is a Grade II listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1254726 LinkExternal link Historic England).

Behind this bridge, the giant rust-coloured arch of the new Ordsall Chord (aka "Castlefield Curve") bridge can be seen, almost two years after it was lifted into place by cranes (SJ8297 : Old and New Bridges over the Irwell).
