Abandoned meeting at Huntingdon Racecourse - Flood plains are there for a reason!
Heavy overnight rain of more than 5mm had caused the Alconbury Brook, which flows through the floodplain this course sits on, to flood over and across the racetrack onto the bookmaker's area in front of the grandstands. The race meeting was abandoned less than an hour before the first race with owners, trainers, jockeys and the paying public all inconvenienced by this late decision to call the meeting off. The flood water was still slowly rising when this photo was taken. In 2012 the course was totally underwater, see LinkExternal link
