"Cut off point" for the River Cuckmere's meanders adjacent to the straightened course
This photo shows the most southerly “cut off point” on the old course of the River Cuckmere. At this point, the old river is bounded by embankments which prevent it flowing to the nearby sea.
The photo also shows the embankment separating the straightened River Cuckmere to the west and the former course to the east. The active river is transporting a sediment load and is consequently a muddier colour than the blue of the original river. The two bodies of water are connected by a sluice close to the “cut off point” by the bridge at Exceat.
