St Chad's church
St Chad's church
A church has been on this site since the 7th century when it was founded by St Chad. Nothing of the Anglo-Saxon church survives today. During the English Civil War the church sustained considerable damage with much of the roof lost. Rebuilding included the brick clerestory.
