Footbridge over the Mill Burn
Footbridge over the Mill Burn
Lighting is often a challenge at this time of year, but the motivation for taking this picture was that work to replace the bridge had finished just a few days earlier. Its predecessor is shown in NS3879 : Footbridge over the Mill Burn, in more or less the same place, as revealed by the alignment of background features.
Millburn Gardens

The Mill Burn flows through this landscaped area, which is bounded on one side by the main road, and on the other by the River Leven. Formerly lying waste, the space was laid out, c.1998, to include stands of pine and birch, willow coppice, alder carr, boardwalks, picnic tables, a wet meadow, a wild flower meadow, standing stones, a sensory garden, and, in the north-eastern corner, a story-telling area (St Martin's Primary school is nearby).

Facing it across the main road is a depot; the site of the depot was formerly occupied by the Millburn Works (pyroligneous works), and, at an even earlier period, by a grain mill that was associated with Millburn Farm.
