TQ4277 : View from Ha Ha Road
taken 4 years ago, near to Woolwich, Greenwich, England
View from Ha Ha Road
This view from Ha Ha Road looks towards the Royal Artillery Barracks on a very cold and frosty morning. The ha ha, after which the road is named, is in the foreground. The Royal Artillery moved out in 2007, but other units have moved in from Chelsea Barracks including The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery - see
Link.
Ian Nairn in Nairn's London (1966) says of Woolwich Barracks: "No need to go to Leningrad. Come to Woolwich instead, and see the yellow brick march out for a mile or more... In mist or winter sunlight it is haunting: a perpetual Last Post floating as the backcloth to the great parade ground."
