M77 Eastbound between Kilmarnock and Glasgow
The M77 is a relatively new motorway which connects Glasgow and the South-West of Scotland. For about twenty years it existed only as a 1-mile spur from the M8 to Dumbreck Road. It has since been extended, first to bypass the urban sections of the A77 through suburbs of Glasgow and then again in 2005. The final extension runs between junctions 5 and 8, replaces a narrow four-lane single carriageway road through open countryside. It is now the primary arterial route between Glasgow and Ayrshire.
