The east facade of the Bishop's Palace was built in 1717. Research indicates it was built by William Smith of Warwick, he usually built to designs by his more famous brother, Francis. The Bishop's Palace is much older than this as can be seen when the rear of the building is viewed, SO8454 : The Bishop's Palace parts date from the late 13th century. Four monarchs have stayed here: Elizabeth I (1575), Charles I (1644), James II (1687) and George III (1788). No Bishop has stayed here since 1856, it now houses the offices of the diocese of Worcester office. The building is Grade I listed, see: Link In the background is the incongruent Cathedral Building of Heart of Worcestershire College (former Worcester College of Technology).
Notwithstanding all the technical babble, what an evocative picture of days at the cricket in Worcester, and a unique record of the effects of the 'Great Flood'! Good on ya Nige.
