NZ5210 : 'Bridge of Scrapes'

'Bridge of Scrapes'
Tanton Bridge is closed this winter as the local authority is finally widening this historic bridge after it was suffering continual damage from modern traffic.
500k is being spent on the 18thC bridge to extend it by 5.75m on the upstream side, allowing unrestricted two way traffic, and install pavements for pedestrians.
Both old parapets are being replaced with new stonework as they have been hit so many times the original stone is crumbling away. Sadly this will probably mean the end for a benchmark carved on the centre of the east parapet in the 19thC.
