Old Bank House, Belsay
According to my father, who worked for Lloyds Bank 1926-70, this had been a branch in the days when a single clerk was allowed to run an office.
And it's true, it was, "Bank House is an elegant stone built detached house, built in 1907 for Lloyds Bank and its manager. " see estate agents brochure; Link
However, the branch was built for Lambton & Company (Head Office in Grey Street, Newcastle) who were taken over by Lloyds in 1908. It may not have operated as a full branch for long (if it ever did) and was finally open only on Fridays as it became a sub-branch to Ponteland. Rather a grand house for a bank clerk.
The Ponteland branch had only opened in 1904. There must be a story here to explain where there was enough wealth to support such branches, particularly this one which must have been out in the wilds at that time.
