Bridge over the River Mole - in flood
Bridge over the River Mole - in flood
Bridge carrying the Leatherhead to Dorking railway over the River Mole. The bridge was built in 1867 by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. The decoration was included at the insistence of Thomas Grissell, owner of Norbury Park through which much of the railway was built. Grade II listed - see LinkExternal link. In the background is the bridge carrying the Leatherhead to Guildford railway over the river.

Seen here with the river in flood after a period of heavy rain brought by Storm Dennis, falling on ground already saturated from Storm Ciara a week earlier. As an indication of more normal water levels compare TQ1656 : Bridge over the River Mole. Water level data suggests a difference between the two dates of around 2.2m.
