Arch on Lambley Viaduct
Arch on Lambley Viaduct
This impressive viaduct carries the former Haltwhistle to Alston railway line over the river South Tyne. Built in 1852, the viaduct comprises nine arches, is over 260 metres long and stands over 33 metres above river level. The railway was closed in 1976, but the viaduct remains open to pedestrians and cyclists although the southern end is blocked off by a private house.
