St Peter's Church, Wallsend
St Peter's Church, Wallsend
This church was opened in 1809, to replace the medieval church at Holy Cross, which was in a ruined state. In 1892, the church was extensively modified in the Perpendicular Style to give it the present appearance. Major repairs were necessary in the late 20th century, partly financed by English Heritage, hence the flag on the tower.
