SD4766 : Marker post, Hest Bank

Marker post, Hest Bank
This is near to the milestone, and is unusual (or at least I have never seen one like it before). It has the royal cypher, which must be of Edward VII, has space for a measurement in feet and inches, presumably to the line of a cable. As far as I know the only public utility to use the royal cypher is the GPO telephone service, but I thought telephone wires were all overhead in the early 20C.
