St John's, Edinburgh: upper churchyard
Being built on a hillside, the churchyard (burial ground) is terraced, the upper level outside the church hall also being used for cafe seating in the summer.
St John's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh
The prominent church building at the west end of Princes Street was first built in 1816-18, extended with a chancel in 1879-82 and further extended at various times in the 20th and early 21st centuries. It is a parish of the Episcopal (Anglican) church rather than the Church of Scotland. The buildings and its churchyard are category A listed (LB27401) and fall within the World Heritage Site. The church will always be associated with its first incumbent, later Dean, Edward Ramsay whose memorial cross stands close to the church and is included in the listing.
