St John's, Edinburgh: Dean Ramsay's cross
The memorial in the form of a Celtic cross is to Dean Edward Ramsay, clergyman and author, who died in 1872. The cross was designed by Rowand Anderson in 1878, with the Celtic bronze reliefs by the noted Victorian metalworker Francis Skidmore. It is explicitly covered by the category A listing of the adjacent church building. See also NT2473 : Dean Ramsay Memorial.
St John's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh
The prominent church building at the west end of Princes Street was first built in 1816-18, extended with a chancel in 1879-82 and further extended at various times in the 20th and early 21st centuries. It is a parish of the Episcopal (Anglican) church rather than the Church of Scotland. The buildings and its churchyard are category A listed (LB27401) and fall within the World Heritage Site. The church will always be associated with its first incumbent, later Dean, Edward Ramsay whose memorial cross stands close to the church and is included in the listing.
