The existing church hall of 1916 was extended in a radically contemporary manner by LDN Architects in 2017 to project over the retaining wall of the upper churchyard. Compare and contrast the new east end NT2473 : St John's, Edinburgh: the Cornerstone Centre
St John's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh

The prominent church building at the west end of Princes Street was first built in 1816-18, extended with a chancel in 1879-82 and further extended at various times in the 20th and early 21st centuries. It is a parish of the Episcopal (Anglican) church rather than the Church of Scotland. The buildings and its churchyard are category A listed (LB27401) and fall within the World Heritage Site. The church will always be associated with its first incumbent, later Dean, Edward Ramsay whose memorial cross stands close to the church and is included in the listing.
