A guided tour of the locomotive maintenance department at Haworth. The green rail car on the right is Waggon und Maschinenbau diesel railbus No. M79964. This is one of 5 ordered by British Railways in the 1950s to operate on branch lines. It originally worked in Cambridgeshire and then transferred to Buxton to work the branch to Millers Dale. It arrived on the KWVR in 1967. It had been re-engined by BR with an 150 horsepower AEC engine and this has subsequently been replaced with an identical engine from a London Transport bus. It has proved very reliable and is frequently used on early morning services. I must admit it's quite a handsome machine (mind you, I was quite taken by the BR Pacer units).
