Former mineral tramway near Badger Lane, Hipperholme
The tramway is about to cross the valley to the far side of Badger Lane and climb up to the former Hipperholme Station. It crossed the beck on a bridge; there are a few ruined pillars in Red Beck,
SE1125 : Mysterious pillars in Red Beck near Badger Lane. It then crossed under Badger Lane in a culvert. The tramway was built in 1919 to take bricks from Allen's brickworks to the station. It was operated by a steam-powered endless belt (information from
Link ). It is shown on maps revised in 1930 and 1948, and was presumably dismantled when the brickworks closed in the 1950s. Diring a further look at the 1930 map I suddenly realised that the tramway went over the beck but continued descending and went under the road. I had seen what I thought was a drainage channel on the far side of the road and realise now that it must have been the tramway.
