Judas' ear fungus
Judas' ear fungus
Auricularia auricula-judae is commonly known as 'Jews' ears' but is actually named for Judas Iscariot who is said to have hanged himself from an elder tree, the dead wood of which this fungus grows on.
Its main growing season is in the winter and its gelatinous texture can withstand freezing.
