Q6 locomotive at Tyne Dock locomotive shed, 1967
These were the basic heavy freight locomotive of the north east, introduced by the North Eastern Railway in 1913. They hauled heavy coal and iron ore trains, and were never completely ousted by the arrival of the British Railways standard 9F locomotive. Also of note is the elaborate lattice signal gallery in the distance.
