This kissing gate lies on the route of a public footpath leading from the course of the old Avenue Branch of the Blyth & Tyne Railway, now designated as a 'traffic-free cycle route', to Hartley Lane (B1325) and the Beehive Inn see Link. The footpath was in existence when the first Ordnance Survey Six-Inch map of the area was published in 1865.
