Culvert between Murton and South Wellfield
Culvert between Murton and South Wellfield
This culvert lies in an area commonly called 'Murton Gap' and forms part of a 2019-completed £2 million flood alleviation scheme. The scheme, which was designed to manage the uncontrolled flow of surface water from the fields around Shiremoor, Monkseaton and Wellfield, was deemed necessary following the infamous 2012 'Thunder Thursday' which resulted in considerable flooding in the area.
