Farm Buildings, Brier Dene Farm, Whitley Bay
Farm Buildings, Brier Dene Farm, Whitley Bay
The stone buildings seen in this photograph behind mother and foal were in situ when the first Ordnance Survey Six-inch map of the area was published in 1865. The octagonal building at the centre is a gin gang, which along with the adjoining barn and shelter shed, is Grade II Listed. They date from the late 18th or early 19th century. Since the time of the 1865 map the spelling of the name of the farm has evolved from 'Brierdean' to 'Brier Dene'.
