Boarded up restaurant, Market Street, Newcastle upon Tyne
The restaurant on the corner of Market Street and Grainger Street occupies premises that for many years were occupied by Barclays Bank. Market Street, normally busy with traffic is almost deserted.
Despite being taken at 3:45 on a Monday afternoon the city centre is eerily quiet and most businesses are closed. This is due to government restrictions imposed to try and halt the spread of the COVID-19 infectious disease outbreak at the start of 2020. These restrictions included the banning of all but essential travel and closing all but essential retailers from the 23rd of March. Due to the indefinite nature of the 'lockdown' some businesses have boarded up their windows to protect them while the buildings are unoccupied, including this branch of Cote Brasserie.
