NZ3375 : Retaining Wall, Holywell Dene

taken 5 years ago, near to Hartley, Northumberland, England

Retaining Wall, Holywell Dene
Retaining Wall, Holywell Dene
The retaining wall appears to have seen better days and, in all probability, dates back to the days when Holywell Dene was home to a number of settlements including, in the vicinity of this retaining wall, Hartley Mill (Corn). The corn mill was clearly shown on the first Ordnance Survey Six-Inch map of the area, published in 1865.
