Willow reflected, Ashfields, Southern Washlands nature corridor
This area, on the east bank of the Calder, was opencast in the 1950s and 1960s. The resulting holes were used as lagoons for pulverised fuel ash, until Wakefield power station closed in 1994. Now it is an SSSI and a popular place to walk and cycle.
