SE3520 : Sections of pipeline, Ashfields

taken 5 years ago, near to Wakefield, England

Sections of pipeline, Ashfields
Sections of pipeline, Ashfields
This area, on the east bank of the Calder, was opencast in the 1950s and 1960s. The resulting holes were used as lagoons for piped pulverised fuel ash, until Wakefield power station closed in 1994. Now it is an SSSI and a popular place to walk and cycle. These shore sections of pipeline are the only ones visible on the Ashfields circular walk.
