The A194(M) is a short (3½ miles) section of motorway which links junction 65 of the A1(M) to the A184 and A194 which both run east to join the A19 road to the Tyne Tunnel.

The primary A194 road runs for 5 miles from the end of the A194(M) to South Shields. It is dual carriageway for most of its length.
