Enclosure at Thistle Green
Enclosure at Thistle Green
Thistle Green is an area of heathery moorland, with rocks and low knolls lying to the south of Cronkley Scar; it's known for certain rare plant species, notably gentians. The locality has a number of enclosures, (this is one of them), securely fenced with conventional post and wide-mesh wiring but with the addition of a finer mesh fencing which extends on to the ground surface and even perhaps into it in some places. The plan of course is to exclude grazing animals, even burrowing ones - rabbits!
The hills on the skyline are in order from the left, Meldon Hill, Great and Little Dun Fell, and Cross Fell.
