A46 Improvements in Nottinghamshire

Between 2009 and 2012, the A46 between Widmerpool (the junction with the A606 Nottingham - Melton Mowbray road) and Farndon (near Newark) is being upgraded to dual carriageway as the existing single carriageway is overloaded. In many places the new road is on a completely new alignment, allowing much of the older Fosse Way alignment to be retained, in some places effectively as a route for cyclists and walkers, in other catering for the roadside communities. All junctions will be grade separated, although in a number of cases local roads will cross directly, without any access to the improved road.
