Benchmark on Maunby Gates
Benchmark on Maunby Gates
This house was originally lived in by the crossing keeper and his family, it was built soon after 1854 when the Leeds Northern was extended from Melemerby Junction to Northallerton. The line shut in 1969 and the tracks were removed shortly afterwards. The benchmark is on the front of the property but is well hidden due to the way it has eroded & weathered over the years. It was measured at 95.1ft asl.
