The east window arch of the abbey at Dale Abbey
The abbey at Dale Abbey was founded in about 1200 by an order known as the White Canons because of the colour of their habits. The abbey remained operational and influential until 1538, when it was dissolved and the greater part demolished by the command of Henry VIII. Today little is left but the arch of the east window shown in this picture.
It seems a great pity this clearly marked important feature (The Hermitage) will now not be recognised as a Geograph , taken as it was at close range and would clearly assist with interpreting this feature from the map.
