Looking West towards the Giant's Causeway
According to legend the causeway was built by the giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool), though according to geological science it was formed around 50 to 60 million years ago, when these columns were created by volcanic activity forcing molten basalt through chalk beds which formed these characteristic columns as it cooled, most columns are hexagonal.
