This is in a short open section of a culverted stream. The 1850 six-inch map shows a 'Drain' depicted by a pecked line going down the hillside towards Ibbot Royd Mill (Cotton). According to Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion this was built c.1798. It is shown but not captioned on the 1892 1:2500 map but on the 1921 and 1933 editions it was 'Martin Mill'.
