Hafod Works - derelict rolling mill
Until 1980 this site was being operated by Yorkshire Imperial Metals as a copper rolling mill. It was meant to be preserved and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Out of sight to the left is a 600 horsepower Uniflow engine that drives the large second motion wheel at the rear by cotton driving ropes. The drive passes through a reversing gear train to two stands of rolls (only one visible). Reverse is by a small steam engine operating multi-plate clutches. This site is now being restored and I hope to visit it when the Covid-19 pandemic permits.
