TQ1850 : Coach Road to Brockham

Coach Road to Brockham
Coach Road to Brockham
The coach road appears to date from the eighteenth or nineteenth century: it has the appearance of a carriage drive, built broad and direct between the turn in the old Dorking to Reigate Road, above Boxhill Bridge (now bypassed by the A25) and Tanner's Bridge in Brockham. The first part, from the A25, now serves as access to Betchworth Park golf club. An old turnstile still stands on the right, perhaps dating from earlier times when the carriage drive was locked to vehicular traffic, but access for the public was maintained on foot.
