Pennine Way above North Gang Scar
Although I frequently visit the Keld gorge and the footpaths in the valley below this view, and have revisited many sections of the Pennine Way since I first walked it, it turns out that I have not traversed this stretch around Kisdon Hill since the summer of 1974 when I was still in sixth form. We had planned a walk on the moors from near the Tan Hill Inn for this day, but remarkably strongs winds for the time of year quickly drove us off the tops and into more sheltered and familiar haunts. My recollection of this bit of the long distance route from Edale to Kirk Yetholm was that it was much rougher and bouldery, whilst the (now tarmac-sealed) bit of bridleway leading up to the footpath had been completely lost to memory. Fortunately, between the frequent short, sharp showers, the sun shone and offered splendid views and nice lighting.
