Central Bridge, Forest of Dean
A bridge over a forest ride. I thought this was named "Central Bridge" because the Forest of Dean Central Railway which was opened in 1868 after a troubled gestation of some 12 years was meant to pass under the rival Severn & Wye Mineral Loop at this point. However, the FoDCR never reached this point, the traffic it was intended to capture having either dried up or been nicked by the later (but more convenient) S&W mineral line, and even if it had, it seems the crossing of the two railways would either have been "on the level" or via another bridge not far from this one which was demolished upon closure of the S&W. Either way, these days the bridge crosses a forest ride and carries no heavier traffic than families on bicycles. See
