Monument to Jacob Walton, in Alston
Jacob Walton died on the second of March 1863 aged 53; he was prominent in the metal mining industry. The column was reinstated in 2004 after being removed 44 years before to allow for road improvements. That event is recorded in the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald - LinkExternal link.
The town hall is above and to the right of his monument.
