Castles of Munster: Brittas, Limerick (1)
The fragmentary remains of a C13 castle of the Burkes, formerly a rectangular walled structure with two circular corner towers, of which just this dome vaulted example survives in the SW corner. The NW tower was lost sometime before the 1840s. In 1607 Sir John Burke of Brittas was hanged at Limerick for having a priest say mass in his house here.
