The White House, formerly Crescent Inn
This grade II listed public house was built in 1932, in hispano-moresque style. It is one of many designed by architect Harry Redfern for the Carlisle and District State Management Scheme. The scheme took pubs and breweries under government control during World War 1 to curb excessive drinking by munitions workers, and continued until 1971. The pub has been closed since January 2007, and is on the market to be sold for alternative use.
