NY4055 : The Lonsdale Cinema

The Lonsdale Cinema
The Lonsdale Cinema
The cinema opened in 1931, and had a stylish art-deco interior. In the 1970's it was partitioned to provide a bingo hall and smaller cinema, both of which closed in the 2000's. The property is currently owned by a developer who wished to build flats on the land. A vigorous local campaign to save the building from demolition resulted in its being given a Grade II listing in 2007. Supporters would like it to become a theatre/arts centre.
The building looks shabby now, but a surviving art-deco window can be seen from the outside NY4055 : Art-deco window, Lonsdale Cinema.

Information update : The building was de-listed in 2010 and demolished in 2014.
