Blackpool Winter Gardens
Blackpool Winter Gardens
This is the view looking down from the top of Blackpool Tower to Victoria Street and the Winter Gardens entertainment and conference complex. The Winter Gardens was first opened in 1878 offering Blackpool's many visitors somewhere to go during the inclement weather that is not uncommon on the Lancashire coast. Perhaps its greatest claim to fame was as the venue for political party conferences that traditionally alternated each year between the Conservatives and Labour - when one was in Blackpool, the other would be in Brighton. These days major cities are more fashionable venues and the last party conference was held here in 2007.
