Track to Awre station
Track to Awre station
The track leads to the site of Awre station, officially known as "Awre for Blakeney Station". It was opened in 1851 by the South Wales Railway, and from 1868 was a junction station for the freight-only Forest of Dean Central Railway: it sometimes appeared in timetables as Awre Junction. It ceased to be a junction station following closure of the remaining stub of the FoDCR in 1949, although the closed line was used for some years as a wagon storage siding. The station closed in 1959. Nothing remains of the station today, although the sign on the gate reads "Station House".
